Group workout classes : more beneficial than sweating it out by yourself!

What’s more motivating than taking part in a group workout class with good tunes, a personal work out style that appeals to you, a clear structure that provides an effective workout, all that, in a wild atmosphere generated by the contagious energy of a great instrutcor? Well, it appears that working out in a group also increases activity-associated health benefits.

Increased benefits in a group

A recent study published in the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association suggests that, compared to solo workouts, group workouts led to a 12.6% increase in mental health, a 24.8% increase in physical health, a 26% increase in emotional health as well as a signfificant decrease in perceived stress. The added health benefits of group workouts are undeniable!

Group workout classes are a wonderful place to meet and interact with others. Cell phones and the like are left behind which will allow you to focus on the instructor and the exercises. It’s a great way of letting go and of reconnecting with yourself.

Motivated to workout

Accountability improves attendance! Knowing that you are « expected » at a certain hour can be a good incentive.  Aslo, when the instructor notices your presence in class, it can be a good motivation booster! 😉

More variety = more motivation

Even if you’re in the habit of working out solo, you should know that switching up the types of workouts you do will help increase motivation. So, why not throw in a group workout class in your fall schedule? Choose among a wide variety of classes, and locations and schedules and decide what, where and when suits you best. Register for the class and don’t forget to put it in your agenda!
