Holiday season: How to eat less, but enjoy more?

November 30, 2018 - By Nautilus Plus

Temps de lecture 2 minutes

During the holidays, we are often surrounded by an abundance of food. When we are faced with all these choices, we tend to eat unconsciously and quickly by reflex. Here are some steps to help you eat less, but enjoy more your food this holiday season.

Think before eating

Before adding food in your plate, take a moment to ask yourself  “why do I want to eat this food?“. This allows your brain to get off autopilot mode, which reacts instinctively to the stimulus. This will allow you to think carefully and reason before making the conscience choice to eat.

Eat intentionally

To eat intentionally, we must be aware of what we are doing in the present moment. One of the reasons we eat too much is that our attention is focused on something else than our food. We miss a great opportunity to taste what is in our mouth. When eating, take the time to ask yourself what taste, texture and sound does the specific food make?

Pleasure with every bite

When we feel guilt about eating a specific food, we tend to engulf it more quickly and forget eating it. If you really want this food, why not enjoy the experience?

Pay attention to the first bite of each different dish, since it is the most rewarding. Each subsequent bite will give you less and less pleasure.  If you do not feel pleasure eating, you most likely do not need to eat anymore. This technique will also allow you to take intentional bites rather eating unconsciously.

Eat less and enjoy more, that’s the best recipe!
