The pattern repeats itself every year: along with New Year’s resolutions comes a wave of new gym members in January. However, data from the fitness industry indicates that 4 out of 5 people will give up on their resolutions by the second week of February. With only 2 weeks left to this milestone, will you be able to resist becoming a statistic?

 

The real challenge

Having been active in the fitness industry for over 20 years, I am well-aware that deciding to take charge, become active, and adopt new eating habits in order to lose weight and improve your health condition requires major changes to your lifestyle. This is not an easy process, and it requires giving up well-ingrained detrimental habits and replacing them with healthy alternatives. Here lies the real challenge: are you willing to make the necessary efforts to remain diligent and achieve results?

 

Seeking help

Unfortunately, few are those who are able to overcome this challenge by themselves. Therefore, professional advice is essential to find solutions to the challenges involved in adopting a healthy lifestyle. Indeed, resolutions are not a one-shot deal that you simply make on New Year’s; you have to keep working at them throughout the year, whether it be spring, in September, and even on Mondays when you are hungover from a week-end of binge drinking and eating!

 

In addition, people who want to get in shape and maintain this new lifestyle often experienced failure on previous attempts. To succeed where they had previously failed, they will need professional support and guidance.

 

Those trying to lone wolf this endeavour think that drafting a workout plan is a simple formality, and that lifting weights haphazardly by mimicking others followed by a 20-min jog on the treadmill will be enough to reach their weight loss objectives.

Reality is quite different, as everyone has different needs, objectives, strengths, weaknesses, abilities, and fitness levels. For example, training methods will vary based on these particularities and will determine the type of exercises performed as well as their intensity, frequency, duration, etc., and then they will be adjusted according to your progression. Nutrition during your program will also play a significant role in energy levels, post-workout recovery, and how fast you will get results.

 

Therefore, using the professional services of a kinesiologist and a nutritionist will optimize your chances of success. What methods will you use to achieve your resolutions for the year?
