New Year’s resolution: eating habits

January 3, 2018 - By Nautilus Plus

Temps de lecture 2 minutes

The month of January is known to be a period of change and eating habits are at the top of the list when it comes to resolutions. In order to offer some assistance, I have prepared a list of tricks to set and reach your New Year’s Resolution.

Choose a SMART goal

The first step is to set a clear goal. I recommend using the SMART model to determine your goal. To do so you must make sure your goal is Specific, Measurable, Appealing, Realistic and Temporal. A well-defined goal is the first step in bringing long-term change. For more information on the SMART strategy, I suggest you read my colleague’s article.

Find a partner

Whether it be your spouse, a friend or a parent, a partner who shares your goals is greatly beneficial. Your partner will be there to support you when you will feel your motivation dropping and vice versa. It will be easier to change your eating habits if the people who live with you do the same.

If you do not get all the support you need from your family and friends, ask about our weight loss supervised nutrition groups at a Nautilus Plus location near you. A group of 3 or 4 people with goals similar to yours will get you the support you need.

Master meal planning

As the week comes to an end and the refrigerator gets empty, compulsive choices begin. That’s when we turn to fast food and pre-packaged meals that are not in line with your goals. This is why it’s crucial to analyze your schedule and identify when grocery shopping and meal preparation will take place for the week. I strongly recommend reading this article for more information on planning.

Accept the relapse

It is important to accept that your will go through relapses. The important thing is to not feel guilty and to simply get back on track. As I explain in my article, relapse is unavoidable and can occur at any time, so it is important to learn how to deal with it.

These tips will certainly guide you in the right direction but if you feel that an extra helping hand could be beneficial, our nutritionists will guide you to change your eating habits.
