Cancer prevention : where does the money go?

However legitimate, a lot of money is invested in cancer prevention research. Nonetheless, prevention is part of the solution, especially when we know that 75% of cancers can be prevented by means of lifestyle changes. Studies have shown that 30% of cancers are directly linked to our diet.

On November 3 and 4, Nautilus Plus will be hosting the « 30 minutes à fond pour le fond » fundraiser for UQAM’s Chair in Cancer Prevention and Treatment. Through this partnership, I recently had the oppotunity of meeting with the Chairholder, Borhane Annabi and the Scientific Director, Richard Béliveau to talk about the impact our donated funds have had over the past 12 years.

In this recorded interview, they answered questions that will help shed light on subjetcs such as :

  • The direction of the Chair, past and present;
  • The fundamental role nutrition plays in cancer prevention;
  • The successful initiatives achieved through the support of Nautilus Plus;
  • The latest findings on physical activity and the prevention of chronic disease.

 

I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to take part in the 12th annual « 30 minutes à fond pour le fond ». The event will be held on November 3 and 4 in all 39 clubs throughout Quebec! In participating, you will receive the event’s official stainless steel insulated water bottle.

Members and non-members alike are invited to take part on an individual basis by exercising for 30 minutes (on the equipment of their choice or by taking part in a group exercise class specially designed for the event) or by taking on the the 4X4 challenge which consists of completing 2 hours of cardiovascular exercise as a foursome. Of course, all donations are greatly appreciated!

Karine Larose is a kinesiologist, director of communications and Spokesperson for Nautilus Plus and specializes in fitness motivation. She authored The Guide to Healthier Living, also penned the book 10-4 The Healthy Way to Lose 10 Pounds in 4 Weeks, and recently released her third work called Zero Diet: Delicious and Healthy Recipes for Success, all by Les editions du TRÉCARRÉ. Karine has launched a series of exercise DVDs entitled 30 minutes par jour pour Vivre Plus. Many TV shows and radio stations regularly request Karine’s point of view on physical exercise issues and points of interest.
