Greek Yogurt, Yum!

July 30, 2013 - By Nautilus Plus

Temps de lecture 2 minutes

It’s on everyone’s lips, it can be used in several recipes, and there are many varieties. Of course, I’m talking about Greek yogurt! In addition to its smoothness and rich texture, this yogurt surpasses many others in nutritional value. Let me make you discover this yogurt… if you haven’t already by yourself!

Proteins

It’s the manufacturing process of Greek yogurt that provides it with such high protein content. Indeed, producing Greek yogurt requires three times as much milk as regular yogurt1. Result: Greek yogurt contains 15 g of proteins per serving of 175 g, while regular yogurt contains twice as less!

Calcium

A yogurt should contain at least 15 % of the recommended daily intake of calcium2. All Greek yogurts meet this criterion. However, some brands offer yogurts with more calcium: for example, IÖGO Greko, and Astro.

As a matter of fact, here is a comparative chart of the nutritional value of various Greek yogurts available in stores:

Yogurt
(per 175 g serving)
Proteins
(grams)
Calcium

(% daily value)

Oikos 2 % M.F., plain 18 20
Oikos 2 % M.F., vanilla 13 15
IÖGO Greko 2 % M.F., plain 17 45
IÖGO Greko 0 % M.F., vanilla 15 35
Liberté 0 % M.F., plain 18 15
Liberté 0 % M.F., vanilla 15 20
Astro 0 % M.F., plain 15 42
Astro 0 % M.F., strawberries 15 42

In conclusion, be careful to check the quantity of fat contained in the yogurt you are about to buy! Some Greek yogurts can contain up to 9 % of fat! Instead, you should choose those with 2 % fat or less.

You need ideas for recipes? Try Greek yogurt in a breakfast smoothie, use it to garnish your pancakes , or savor it with fruits as dessert!
