What Should You Buy at the Supermarket?
When we walk into a supermarket, we can easily be overcome by the countless available products. What should we think of light products, or those that are endorsed by the dieting industry?
It can be tempting to believe in all the so-called virtues of these products. However, being low in calories is not always for the best, as some products contain artificial sweeteners, as well as more food additives and salt. Some products were also developed to trick our brains and give us the impression that we ate more calories than we actually did. In short, we have to remain watchful.
As a general rule, we should always opt for fresh foods, such as fruit, vegetables, and whole grains, and avoid processed products as much as possible.
And yet, here are some must-haves for your pantry, along with their serving size:
These foods should still be consumed in moderate amounts, but compared to the same volume of another product in the same category, they are less calorie-dense. This is good news when you eat with your eyes, as the serving can seem to be more generous, or when you want to spread your caloric intake over an entire day.
