4 common weight loss mistakes

Woman stepping on scales and weighing herself

For more than 30 years, Nutrition Month in Canada has been celebrated in March. During this period, nutritionists across the country are emphasizing the importance of their discipline. For the Month of Nutrition 2018, I decided to write about 4 common weight loss mistakes when trying to lose weight permanently.

  1. Taking a “one size fits all” approach

Despite what some magazines, books or websites may suggest, there is no miracle diet that works for everyone. The strategy that your friend or colleague used to lose weight will not necessarily work for you. Each individual is unique and has a different metabolism, level of daily physical activity, eating habits and pace of life. Similarly, a specific medication can’t treat all health problems.

  1. Lack of support

Weight loss goes beyond the gym and eating well. How many times have you decided to take charge and stop a few weeks later? Whether it’s a spouse, a friend, a nutritionist or a trainer, it’s important to have at least one person to help you stay motivated.

  1. Neglecting the quality aspect of your diet

The theme of the Nutrition Month 2018 is “unlock the potential of food”. Many individuals who want to lose weight focus on the amount of calories consumed and give very little importance to where they come from. It is important to know how to meet your nutrition needs with the right nutrients and quality food.

  1. Doing a drastic diet

Restrictive diets may be the biggest obstacle to a healthy weight loss. Any change to in eating habits should meet a basic criterion: can you support this habit forever? It is not realistic to never eat pizza, drink beer or go out for dinner. Restrictive diets can only work in the very short term and are harmful in the long run.

If you recognized yourself in this list, I recommend you to consult a nutritionist. For the whole month of March, Nautilus Plus offers a “nutrition month” package that will allow you to meet a nutritionist every week for a month to improve your eating habits quickly and achieve lasting results.

Not sure if you should consult a nutritionist? During nutrition month, our nutritionists will offer free express consultations to discuss your goals and see how they can help you.

Have a great nutrition month to all!
